LET’S TALK BUSINESS

This month for our Q&A profile we chat with Rachel Clutterbuck, Senior Associate and Head of Property for Miller Sockhill Lawyers, based in Maroochydore and helping clients from the coast to the hinterland.

1. Where did you grow up?

I grew up on the southern end of the coast in the Landsborough and Caloundra areas, attending both the local primary and high schools.

2. What made you choose to base your career on the Sunshine Coast?

Being a Sunshine Coast local, when I was presented with the opportunity to take a full-time position with Miller Sockhill, I jumped at the chance – coming up to seven years ago now!

It is such a privilege to be able to work and live on the Sunshine Coast, it is not something that I take for granted.

3. What does a 'typical' day entail for you?

My days usually involve meeting with and advising clients on their property transactions, document drafting, contract, and lease reviews, performing due diligence, negotiations, title examinations and property transfers.

4. Do you have any funny or fascinating stories/anecdotes to share?

There’s always room for unexpected creativity in property law – including some pretty unique clauses that have come across my desk, such as requiring a Seller to not take any steps to scare livestock or animals away from the property being sold.

5. What is the most useful advice you could give someone looking for legal support?

Local expertise is extremely important, especially in property law. Look for a legal firm with a good reputation and strong involvement in the community.

6. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love nature! My office space is currently referred to as the “greenhouse” and I am always in the garden, at the beach, or camping in my spare time.

7. Do you visit the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and if so, what do you enjoy the most about it?

The best part about visiting the hinterland is feeling the air change as you drive up the range and then taking the time to explore the various national parks. I also love attending the many creative workshops and performances.

8. Do you have a favourite quote which inspires you?

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent a night with a mosquito.”
