Welcome to Maleny Refugee Advocacy Group (W2M) is bubbling with excitement as it prepares to host Muzafar Ali, who will launch an extraordinary 4000km cycling journey, setting out from Maleny on Saturday May 31.
The Ride For Education campaign (rideforeducation.com) will see Muzafar cycle 4000km from Maleny to Adelaide, over 30 days, visiting communities and supporters along the way.
Muzafar, a former Hazara refugee who was forced to flee Afghanistan for his safety, is passionate about raising awareness and support around education for women and girls in Afghanistan.
The epic 4000km, which coincides with Refugee Week 2025, aims to raise $250,000 to support eight schools, 130 teachers, and over 2,000 students across seven countries through Cisarua Learning (cisarualearning.com).
W2M is holding three separate events to support Muzafar. Firstly, a re-screening of award-winning documentary, The Staging Post on May 29, at 5.30pm, in The Verandah Room (behind the Maleny Community Centre). Book tickets at trybooking.com/DAYJY.
The second event, the Ride for Education, takes place on Friday May 30 at the Maleny Community Centre from 5.30pm. Muzafar will speak about the campaign and the people who it will directly support, with a Q&A opportunity.
Following this will be a brilliant concert, with locally, nationally and internationally acclaimed performers, Linsey Pollak, Tunji Beier, Jeunae Rogers, Efiq Zulfiqar, and Adrian Fabila Tjupurrula aka Tjupurru, a proud descendant of the Djabera Djabera tribe of the West Australia Kimberleys.
From 5.30pm a light supper, plus tea, coffee and desserts will be available for purchase and the MCC bar will be open. The program begins at 6.15pm, book tickets via trybooking.com/DAYKA.
On Saturday May 31, you can cheer Muzafar on as he embarks on the first leg of his 4000-kilometre odyssey. There will be a sausage sizzle at Tesch Park from 8am.
