The most common sign of tick paralysis is when your pet’s hind legs become weak or paralysed. Other symptoms can include a wobbly walk, a dry cough, or even a change in their bark or meow. If you notice any of these signs, it's time to check your pet for ticks and get them to the vet ASAP.
First things first though — get that tick off your pet! Use tweezers or a proper tick removal tool to pull it out. Once it’s removed, keep an eye on your pet for any signs of tick paralysis. If they show symptoms, don’t wait—take them to the vet right away.
Just a heads-up, some pets, especially cats and dogs, may not show the typical hind-leg paralysis at first. Instead, they might just have a weird gurgling or choking cough. Either way, their condition can go downhill fast, so be sure to act quickly.
