CREATIVE CUTS - I AM DESTiNY

I AM DESTiNY is an original full-length theatrical work written by local writer/composer Darren HesKes. This dark musical premieres at the Maleny Playhouse September 25.

Featuring an ensemble of 14 talented actors from around the Sunshine Coast portraying an array of hilarious and troubled characters, this fantastical tale has the past and present collide in a quarantined hospital prison cell. Be prepared for a play that is wildly comical,moving and shocking.

This comes after Maleny Players staged the first performances of Darren's epic play/musicalPURGATORY in 2025.

I AM DESTiNY, Darren's fifth full length work has a very melodic and thematic scoreparticularly inspired by Sondheim's Merrily we Roll Along and Lloyd Webber's Tell Meon a Sunday, which he recently performed at the Playhouse with Shelley Hansen (directedby Simon Denver). 

“Sondheim is the songwriter who has influenced my own musical tastes, but watching Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar as a child in the ‘70s invariably was the inspiration to creating my own musicals,” said Darren.
