Jazz lovers on the Sunshine Coast are set for an unforgettable evening as acclaimed young vocalist Jess Spina takes the stage at The Jazz Sessions on Thursday, June 18 at The Presynct.

Renowned for her expressive voice and deep connection to the music, Jess Spina has been captivating audiences since her first jazz performance at just nine years old. Inspired early on by legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, her passion for jazz quickly evolved into a remarkable career. 

She has since performed internationally, including appearances at the Siena International Jazz Festival in Italy, and earned national recognition with a third-place finish at the National Jazz Awards in 2020. Her nomination for the Freedman Fellowship Awards further cemented her reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting jazz talents.

Backed by her dynamic quartet, Spina will present a carefully curated program that blends beloved jazz standards with fresh interpretations of hidden gems. Drawing inspiration from iconic vocalists including Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and Mel Tormé, the performance promises both nostalgia and discovery for audiences.

Spina says, “Jazz compels you to be present, to listen, to take risks, and to never stop learning. It’s a space where everyone can tell their own story while creating something together.”

In addition to her thriving performance career, Spina has recently joined the Jazz Music Institute faculty as a Principal Study Vocal Teacher, where she shares her passion for music with the next generation of artists. Her teaching philosophy centres on creativity, individuality, and making music an inclusive and joyful experience.

Audiences can expect an intimate, emotionally-rich performance that showcases Spina’s technical brilliance, and her sincerity and warmth as a storyteller through song.
