CREATIVE CUTS - September art exhibition

Members of Blackall Range Visual Artists have experienced a colourful palette of activities during the winter months.

In June local artist Lauren Jones inspired and challenged members with a half day Alla Prima workshop. Painting Still Life with a Split-Primary Palette the group learnt to mix an extensive palette of colours from just the warm and cool primaries.

With Alla Prima the aim is to capture the essence of a subject before the paint gets muddy or the first layer dries. Colours naturally blend and interact right on the canvas.   

At the end of June the BRVA showcased their unique styles by holding a five-day Exhibition at St Mary's Hall in Montville.

In July the workshop using Gold Leaf was run by another local artist Marianne Reardon. Dating back to the tenth century, Nepalese Masters of traditional hand drawn sacred scrolls would burn 24 karat gold with dried dung. Once washed with ash, the heavy gold formed a sediment and was mixed with a natural glue medium, often bone marrow or animal fat and used to adorn the scrolls. Thankfully the group used modern glue and imitation gold leaf!

 In August Jenni Kelly visited from Glasshouse for a full day of painting with her colourful acrylic tutoring before she drove to Far West Queensland.  Jenni has enjoyed a long involvement with the not-for-profit Flying Arts Alliance. Many Australian artists take their expertise to rural and remote communities.

The BRVA September exhibition runs from 23rd to 28th. Come and visit and enjoy the art they have for sale at St Mary’s Hall on the Village Green, Main Street in Montville.
