We are living in uncertain times with rising inequality and declining trust in our democracy. A Time For Bravery, a new anthology from the Australia Institute explores what happens when Australia chooses courage.

The Australia Institute is one of Australia’s most respected independent research organisations known for their work on issues of housing, aged care, economics, energy policy and democratic integrity. 

Voices of Fisher will host In Conversation: A Time for Bravery at Eudlo Hall on Thursday August 13, from 5.30pm, featuring Leanne Minshull, co-CEO of the Australia Institute, in conversation with Steven Lang of Outspoken Maleny. The conversation will explore what bravery looks like right now in Australia and how we can use it to reshape our future for the better.

The themes echo what locals have told Voices of Fisher directly: growing frustration with politics that serve powerful vested interests, and the need for political representatives with the courage to do things differently.

"Leanne's work shows what's possible when people choose evidence and honesty over easy answers, and we think Fisher locals are ready to have that same courage, in politics, in our communities, and in our own lives,” says Sarah Wright, from Voices of Fisher.

Local independent bookshop The Little Book Nook on Little Main will have copies of the book available for purchase on the night.

Voices of Fisher is a local community movement promoting political integrity and community led representation in the Federal electorate of Fisher. Since forming in March 2024, the group has had thousands of conversations with local residents from Caloundra to Conondale about what matters most to them, including cost of living, climate action and integrity in politics.
