Maleny RSL will come alive on Saturday, August 16 at 7pm, with a special night of music dedicated to guitar legend Eric Clapton, presented by Noosa-based tribute band The Claptomaniacs.
Their acclaimed show, ‘Cream of Clapton – The Slowhand Show,’ is a three-hour celebration of Clapton’s remarkable musical journey. Covering over 30 classic tracks, the performance spans his iconic work with John Mayall, The Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, and his solo career.
The show blends blues, progressive rock, heartfelt ballads and danceable hits, reflecting the ups and downs of Clapton’s life through his music.
The music covers a wide range of styles; from the psychedelic blues of Strange Brew to tender love songs like Wonderful Tonight, written for his former partner Patti Boyd. Naturally, Clapton's many huge hits, such as Tears In Heaven, Change the World, Sunshine of Your Love and I Shot the Sheriff are included.
A slideshow backdrop will accompany the performance, sharing highlights—and lowlights—from Clapton’s life, adding depth and context to each song.
"The band came together 11 years ago, centred around our 'Clapton' guitarist, David Zuric," Claptomaniacs drummer and former Maleny resident, Alan Lander, said.
"We were looking to provide something different for the Sunshine Coast market, and while we have since developed a broader dance repertoire for many clubs and venues we play, from time to time we reproduce our Clapton special show for discerning audiences - and it's time in Maleny.
"The band is tight and authentic, and features the same five players who came together back in 2014. We're looking forward to entertaining Maleny - and I'm looking forward to seeing a few old faces from my time here."
Over the past decade, the Claptomaniacs have had a long association with the Glasshouse hinterland music scene; performing at the Maleny Music Festival, Eudlo Music Nights, and featuring in a range of other Sunshine Coast festivals and community cultural events.
This event is a genuine, home-grown, independent effort; dedicated to sharing the music that drew them together, with music-lovers from Maleny and surrounding areas.
