A new Sunshine Coast coffee brand is bringing a little more intention to the daily coffee ritual while helping provide clean water in coffee-growing communities.
Kalamalka, founded on the Sunshine Coast by Amelia and Nathan, has officially launched with a simple idea: coffee can be about more than just the caffeine hit.
The brand was created around organic coffee, quality and a more intentional approach to something that forms part of so many people’s everyday routines.
“We wanted to create something that felt aligned with the way we want to live,” says Amelia, who leads the day-to-day running of Kalamalka. “Coffee is such a big part of people’s everyday lives, so we wanted to create a brand that was not only about great coffee, but also about having a positive impact beyond the cup.”
Kalamalka’s coffee is made from 100% Arabica beans, freshly roasted in the Northern Rivers and delivered directly to customers. The brand currently offers whole-bean organic coffee in 250g and 1kg bags.
But perhaps the most important part of Kalamalka’s story sits outside the coffee itself.
Through its Coffee with Intention philosophy, Kalamalka has committed 5% of every sale to clean water initiatives in coffee-growing communities.
The goal is to help provide simple water filtration systems to households in the communities that help produce the coffee people enjoy every day.
“We love the idea that every bag of coffee can do a little bit more,” Amelia says. “The people and communities behind coffee are an important part of the story, and we wanted our impact to extend beyond simply selling another bag of beans.”
For Amelia and Nathan, building Kalamalka has been about creating a business that reflects the way they want to live — from choosing organic coffee to being more conscious of where their morning cup comes from and where it can ultimately lead.
The Sunshine Coast-based business is starting small, with plans to grow its online presence and eventually make Kalamalka available through selected local stockists.
For now, locals can discover Kalamalka online and become part of the brand's early journey.
Kalamalka coffee is available online at www.kalamalka.com.au, with delivery available across Australia.
