The End of Winter
This is a new work for the stage that speaks to our current climate crisis. Written in the wake of the devastation of the 2019 bush fires it asks: What’s happening to winter?
In Australia bushfires are becoming more frequent, our winters warmer and shorter. Will climate change erase winter leaving it to exist only in fairy tales, paintings, and historical accounts?
Noëlle Janaczewska’s masterpiece The End of Winter is about loss and resilience. It has won many accolades with Jane Phegan receiving Best Performance in a Leading Role at the 2022 Sydney Theatre Awards.
“Janaczewska’s script is part sensory, part scientific, part history, totally literate and humongously heartfelt.” Richard Cotter, Sydney Arts Guide.
