Fast becoming a favourite for food lovers in the hinterland, the Kondalilla Restaurant, nestled in the stunning grounds of Kondalilla Eco Resort, is well worth a visit. With a gorgeous al fresco deck space, bar and large dining area, you can relax and take in the tranquil view of Kondalilla Falls National Park.
“We wanted to offer something unique to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland,” explained Manager Jacqui Freeman, “and I think our restaurant does that, with our vegetarian cuisine that has a seafood and vegan influence.”
The attention to detail and the mouth-watering menu has seen consistent five-star reviews on TripAdvisor , with comments such as ‘THE best local food experience’, ‘nothing but praise for the meals and service’, ‘totally impressed with the flavours of every meal I had’.
Perhaps the biggest compliment was from a meat eater… ‘My husband is a steak lover so a little concerned about the focus on seafood and vegetarian, but needn’t have worried. The seafood is locally sourced, fresh and prepared perfectly. This was one of the best meals we have ever had (and that’s a big call from a couple in their 50s!)…Honestly the flavours were amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive too.’
Jacqui is thrilled with the responses and heaps the praise onto her attentive team, led by Jessica Mitchell, and award-winning Executive Chef, Alex Schwarz.
“Alex combines fresh seasonal ingredients with modern technique to enhance flavour, but he doesn’t compromise on high nutritional value and his presentation is consistently elegant,” said Jacqui.
Alex’s experiences include working under the guidance of 2-Star Michelin Chef Christian Scharrer in Schlosshotel BuehlerHoehe, and becoming Executive Chef at Restaurant Lenbach, the ‘Temple of Seven Sins’, one of the most renowned restaurants in Munich.
In 2013 Alexander was looking for a new challenge and found it in Montville where he became Head Chef of Wild Rocket@Mistys.
In June 2020 his culinary journey continued to the newly opened Kondalilla Restaurant, where the owner’s philosophy of a plant- and seafood-based cuisine allowed him to express his passion for the science of food.
The restaurant serves breakfast with delights such as Woombye Truffle Triple Cream Brie with herb-scrambled free-range eggs; Sweet Potato Hash Browns with garlic-tossed green veggies and mushrooms, and Red Quinoa and Coconut Porridge with banana, berries and caramelised buckwheat.
Lunch includes Thai Yellow Curry, Flaky Salmon Poke Bowl, Korean BBQ Tempeh, Vegetable Protein Burger, and Black Sesame Crème Brûlée with mandarin ragu.
Dinner tempts you with Crispy Skin Barramundi, Linguine Agllo E Ollo (garlic, chilli, olive oil, parmesan, parsley and optional Mooloolaba King Prawns), Vegetable Nourishing Bowl (with sweet potato puree, maple roast pumpkin, wild mushrooms and more), and Lemon Meringue tart or Riesling Poached Pear.
“Sundays at Kondalilla are a blend of meals from different menus,” explained Jacqui, “and we also have snacks from 3-5pm on Thursdays to Sundays, such as grilled vegetables with black bean hummus, or tofu satay skewer; our popular ‘Native Bowl’ with green leaf salad, egg, avocado and roast macadamias, plus a delicious cheese board with relish and seasonal fruits.”
So to see what all the fuss is about, pay this welcoming and relaxing restaurant a visit, surrounded by nature at its best in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
